Born in Havana, Cuba, into a musical family, Arturo was immersed in the rich world of Cuban music from a young age. As a percussionist and singer, he played in various Havana-based bands, performing genres like Rumba, Son, Mambo, and Cha-Cha-Cha, and was the musical director of the award-winning comparsa “Los Componedores de Batea”. His success reached new heights when he became a key member of the renowned rumba band “Clave y Guaguanco”, which earned a Latin Grammy for their album “La Rumba Soy Yo”.
Arturo’s musical journey has taken him on numerous tours across Europe, where he became the co-musical director of the British Latin orchestra “La Timbala”. After living and working in Barcelona for several years, he finally settled in Hamburg.
Maestro Arturo is a highly sought-after international instructor of Afro-Cuban music and a leading percussionist and vocalist in Latin Jazz bands like “Delirio Habanero”, “Raizamusic”, and “Oro Negro”, as well as a member of the salsa orchestra “Cubanisimo”. Since 2010, he has been the musical director of the annual Afro-Cuban Guaguanco Festival in Barcelona.
Undoubtedly, Arturo is one of the greatest Afro-Cuban musicians in the world today, and we are incredibly excited to have him join us at UNiDANZA 2025 for what promises to be a highlight of the festival!
