We are thrilled to welcome Yorgenis “Yoyo” Danger Garcia to UNiDANZA 2025, a true ambassador of Afro-Cuban dance and one of the most talented dancers and choreographers in the world of Cuban music and dance.
Born and raised in Cienfuegos, Cuba, Yoyo received his early training in both folkloric and modern dance at the renowned Escuela Nacional de Arte (ENA) in Havana. He furthered his education in dance pedagogy at the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA), Cuba’s prestigious University of the Arts, graduating in 2004 with honors. Following his studies, Yoyo taught at the ISA and worked intensively with the Compañía de Danza Folklórica de Cienfuegos as a soloist and choreographer.
Yoyo’s extensive experience also includes winning the first prize in the Havana Danza Choreography Competition and being the runner-up at the German Salsa Championship in 2002. His specialties include modern dance, Bailes Populares Cubanos (including Son, Mambo, Cha-Cha-Cha, Pilón, Mozambique, Salsa Cubana, and Afro-Cuban dance). He is a highly sought-after teacher, show dancer, and choreographer worldwide.
From 2006 to 2008, Yoyo was part of the teaching team at the annual Baila en Cuba event in Havana, and since 2008, he has been living and teaching in Germany. Known for his calm and patient teaching style, Yoyo’s positive energy and charisma have made him a beloved figure at international dance festivals, both in Cuba and abroad.
Yoyo’s dedication to preserving and sharing the rich history of Cuban dance, from its African roots to its contemporary expressions, is unmatched.
